Have you ever made a rag wreath before? If you have you’re going to have no problem at all making a heart rag wreath.
I love decorating my home for all the different seasons and Valentine’s Day is no exception. The other day I realized I have been making different Valentine crafts for the inside of my house but had completely ignored the front of my house.
I didn’t want to do anything over the top so I thought a wreath for the door would be a perfect addition. I remembered I made a round rag wreath when I was a young girl and thought it would be fun to make a heart rag wreath using the same technique.
Supplies needed to make a Heart Rag Wreath:
1. Metal hanger or heart wreath form found here
2. Fabric of your choice (I used 1 yard)
3. Tulle (optional)
4. Rotary Cutter & Mat (or scissors)
We really love our Cricut Self Healing Mat & Rotary Cutter
5. Command Hook
How to make a Heart Rag Wreath
Using a pair of pliers I untwisted the wire hanger and shaped it into a heart. You defiantly need pliers to do this and get the shape right without hurting your hands. The hangers are hard to bend without them.
Don’t worry about slight bends from the twist, your fabric will cover those.I used 1 yard of material to make my wreath. You can cut your fabric to whatever length and width you want. I cut my material into strips 1 inch wide and 8-10 inches long.
If you use a wire hanger for your heart rag wreath my measurements should work for you. If you use the metal heart wreath form linked above you may need to cut them a little longer.
You may want your ties longer or shorter. That is the great thing about this heart rag wreath project, you can make it however you like best.
I used my rotary cutter and mat board and it went really fast. If you don’t have a rotary cutter and a mat you can use scissors, it will just take a little longer.Once you’ve finished cutting your fabric into strips tie them one at a time around your metal heart.
I added tulle every 2-3 fabric strips. Adding tulle is totally optional. I just really liked how the tulle looked with my fabric.
The heart rag wreath comes together very quickly. Sit back, relax, turn on your favorite show and it’ll be done just like that.
I love how my front door looks with my heart rag wreath, it’s the perfect pop of color for Valentine’s Day!
